How Do UVC Air Purifiers Work?

You probably know that the sun’s ultraviolet light (UV) causes painful sunburn. But did you realize that another kind of ultraviolet light can be installed to keep your residence’s air clean?

The sun lets off two types of dangerous UV rays, UVA and UVB. These damaging rays can cause sunburn, skin cancer, wrinkles and other types of premature aging.

There’s another variety of UV light, known as UVC. While full exposure to this ultraviolet light is harmful for your skin or eyes, it can safely be applied to clean air, water and some surfaces.

Mustang Mechanical uses this light in several of our solutions to improve air filtration in Grand Prairie homes.

What is an Ultraviolet Light Used For?

This distinct wavelength is called “germicidal” since it destroys the DNA of bacteria and viruses. When pathogens move through this light, they eventually cease to exist since they can’t multiply.

This makes UVC light a strong alternative to chemical disinfection. Germicidal light is employed in many disinfection applications, such as medical laboratories and hospitals. It’s also used to sterilize drinking water and other liquids produced in food processing.

It’s becoming more popular to disinfect air in houses in Grand Prairie. That’s since it can also eradicate frequent indoor contaminants like mold, mildew and bacteria. This is an additional benefit for loved ones who deal with seasonal allergies or asthma.

Having Germicidal UV Light in Your Residence

We place a germicidal UV light within your HVAC system’s ductwork. Since the light is put within the ductwork, it makes it compatible with most heating and cooling equipment. This also keeps its light securely contained while providing strong disinfection for your home’s air.

Dirty air is purified in a two-step process, first moving through your air filter and then the UV light in advance of flowing across your home. Even when your heat or air conditioning isn’t operating, these lights still work to keep your air, ductwork and home comfort system clean.

This whole-house product is better than a portable air purifier, which can only clean the air in one room. Portable air purifiers also can’t freshen your ductwork or the innerworkings of your HVAC equipment. A clean HVAC system is often a more efficient one that could even operate longer. And, the majority of portable air purifiers are notorious for producing ozone.

When thinking about adding a germicidal lamp to your residence, it’s essential to choose one that doesn’t produce ozone. While ozone is fantastic at eradicating odors and chemicals, it may also irritate your lungs and cause other respiratory issues.
